What In The World Is RSS?

If you visit blogs, and since you’re looking at this one I assume you do, you’ll have seen the term “RSS”. What is RSS and why would you want it?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It allows people to sign up for (or subscribe) to a blog’s posts. The posts are viewed in a RSS reader. Google Reader and BlogLines are examples of RSS readers.

Here’s a photo of what last Friday’s post looks like in Google Reader.

RSS

As you can see, it looks a lot like reading the post on my website. If it looks the same then why would you use a reader?

Looking at one reader is easier than looking at a bunch of blogs. If you’re like me, you find more interesting blogs every week. You can either go from blog to blog checking to see what’s been updated OR you can go to your reader and have it collect all the latest and greatest posts for you. It saves you time and effort.

I assume that you’re now filled with a burning desire to subscribe to the feed for this blog. Rest easy and cast your eyes upon the top right column in the blog. You’ll find the subscribe link there.
