Blogging Equals Influence

ProBlogger has an interesting post on how blogging can lead to influence and ultimately to profit in your area of expertise:  Are RSS Subscribers Worthwhile if they Don’t Visit Your Blog?

The post starts out about analyzing the benefit of RSS subscribers.  Many blogs are supported by advertising or product sales.  RSS subscribers are able to read a blog’s content without actually visiting the site.  So the subscribers usually aren’t money makers for blog publishers.

However if you have subscribers that means you have a voice and a presence.  That can be lead a blog publisher to being recognized as an expert in their field.  The article ends up talking a lot about this concept and how influence can be beneficial.

I think this author is on target with their analysis.  I’ve seen two of my friends/customers become recognized authorities in the subject matter for their blogs.  (Karen Burns, Working Girl and Washington Winemaker)  It takes hard work.  It takes a passion for the subject matter.  It takes commitment.  And in the end it works.
