I received this email from one of my customers yesterday.  “My customers say when they click to pay they are going to a dead page.  Is there a PayPal problem?”

Indeed there was a problem over at PayPal.

At about 1:30 EDT the entire PayPal system crashed.  It was down for about an hour.  After that there were limited outages until about 6:30 EDT.  PayPal says the cause was an “internal network hardware issue.”

This is a huge deal because PayPal runs about $2,000 dollars of sales through its system every second.  Every second! That’s over seven million dollars an hour!  We really do live in a wired world.
